Description
Strange Tales of a Scholar’s Studio (also known as Strange Tales from Liaozhai) is a collection of 491 tales describing the encounters of scholars with supernatural creatures including fox fairies, immortals, ghosts, and demons. The inscription quotes the author Pu Songling (1640-1715): ‘Alas! I am but the bird that, dreading the winter frost, finds no shelter in the tree; the autumn insect that chirps to the moon, and hugs the door for warmth. For where are they who know me?’
