As demonstrated by the selection of works presented in this exhibition, the way in which the Qur’anic text was copied over the centuries was constantly open to experimentation. In this example (Qur’an, 35:16-28), each line has been set in a ruled panel of three different shades, and written alternatively in gold and black inks, an arrangement that also spread to Indian Qur’ans during the 18th century.
Objects are sometimes moved to a different location. Our object location data is usually updated on a monthly basis. Contact the Jameel Study Centre if you are planning to visit the museum to see a particular object on display, or would like to arrange an appointment to see an object in our reserve collections.
