Mount Fuji was a popular tourist destination for foreign visitors in the late 1800s and early 1900s, and the mountain became one of the most widely produced souvenir images. In this highly realistic scene, almost certainly derived from a contemporary photograph, the pine tree is depicted in cut velvet, while Mount Fuji is left uncut to heighten the sense of distance and perspective.
