Modern Chinese Paintings: The Reyes Collection in the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford
Cheng Shifa was born in Shanghai, where most of his career has been spent. He practised landscape painting before taking up illustration and figure painting, for which he is now better known. Landscapes such as this are relatively few but the loose brushwork and the use of colour are typical of his work.
