Lishu is a Han dynasty (206 BC-AD 220) script. The present calligraphy was copied from the famous Wu Rong stele at Ji’nan in Shandong province, carved in the Eastern Han (15 BC-AD 220) dynasty. The bird and flower painting by Tang Yun (1910-1993) is in traditional decorative style, and was probably mounted together with the calligraphy not long after it was completed.
