    Indian Block-Printed Textiles in Egypt: The Newberry Collection in the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford

    A continuous field of stylized, separate leaves, each with a beaded surround and partly filled with white dots, all in white outlines against a red ground. Adjacent to it is a band with two interlacing lines filled with a single row of dots, and with flowers and leaves set between the interlace. This design is red and brown on a white ground.

    The reverse is more saturated with dye than the surface, and certainly some resist was stamped onto the surface, but it is likely that the mordant for the brown also was stamped.
