Vase with ovoid body, tall thick neck strongly ribbed circumferentially with everted lip. Impressed round seal on base: Sozan.
Sozan specialized in the imitation of Chinese wares, particularly the celadon wares of the Song and Yuan dynasties. This is a direct copy of a Song original. -

Vitreous coating applied to the surface of a ceramic to make it impermeable or for decorative effect.

Ceramic material composed of kaolin, quartz, and feldspar which is fired to a temperature of c.1350-1400⁰c. The resulting ceramic is vitreous, translucent, and white in colour.
