Maharaja Vijai Singh (r.1752-1793) enjoys water-play in a pool at the Nagaur palace, built by his father Bakhat Singh (also depicted in a work in the previous section [LI118.36]). The Raja drenches a concubine with his syringe, while the other ladies splash each other. Maids with the Raja’s regalia stand in attendance, while female musicians also perform. Bedchambers stand ready for the Raja’s siesta. An earlier related painting is in the Jodhpur Fort Museum.
