The Monkey King, or Sun Wukong, is a main character in Journey to the West, one of the Four Great Classical Novels in Chinese literature. He is depicted here as an opera figure with his followers from his dwelling, the Water Curtain Cave. The flag reads: ‘Sun, the Great Sage Equal of Heaven’, a title he assumed during a rebellion with the heavenly court.
