Cave dwelling in Handan

    This cave dwelling is cut directly into rock. Most homes of this type are cut into the loess cliffs further north and west of Handan. The drawing exemplifies Xu Bing’s stated preference at the time for depicting simple, everyday things: shoes, tools, baskets, and vegetables are all shown. Xu Bing later made a larger lithograph of this drawing.
