    Mokkō; egde regularly hammered up; eight large maple leaves in bold iroye incrustation and a ninth in negative silhouette piercing. Signed: Kitaye ([Japanese text], "forging", i.e. the iron base) Hizen no kuni ("of Hizen province") Tadayoshi [Japanese text], and Chiribamu ([Japanese text], "carved", i.e. the decoration) tei ([Japanese text], "by his younger brother") Tadamitsu [Japanese text]; also inscribed at the back; Itomi [Japanese text]; Yasukoi [Japanese text] no atsuraye ([Japanese text], i.e. "to the order of I. Y.").
