Chinese Paintings in the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford

Wang Xuetao was from Cheng'an or Daming, in southern Hebei province. In the early 1920s he went to Peking to study painting. He initially studied Western painting but switched to traditional Chinese painting as a pupil of Chen Hengke (q.v.), Qi Baishi (q.v.) and Wang Mengbai. He later became a founder member of the Beijing Painting Academy.
