The Newberry Collection of Islamic Embroideries

Border of the neck opening of a garment, with a wide band of couched silver thread and a floral border. At the base of the band a long, ornate double cross is added, also in silver thread couching. There are additional silver thread circles with blue embroidery centres. Some outlines are embroidered in red stem stitch, and there is silk thread overcast stitching at the neck opening.

The fragment has a surface of silk, with red and blue longitudinal stripes, and a flax backing. Threadcount and diameter refer first to the silk, secondly to the flax.
