Nakamura Tomijūrō V as the lady's maid Kasane

  • Description

The play ‘Kasane’ is based on a classic Japanese ghost story. Here the actor Tomijūrō V (designated a Living National Treasure in 1994) is depicted in the role of Kasane, the lover of the handsome but cruel protagonist Yoemon. Kasane is unaware that Yoemon long ago had an affair with her mother and killed her father, Suke. When she discovers the truth, the spirit of her father invades her body, transforming her into a vengeful entity. The transformation is depicted in a famous dance.
