    The Barlow Collection

The piece may be vaguely inspired by melon-shaped ewers of qingbai porcelain of the Song dynasty (AD 960–1279).

It is of lobed melon shape with a dragon-shaped spout and a thin curled handle with hooks. The flat cover has a pointed knob. The piece bears a transparent glaze except at the rim of the ewer and underside of the cover. The underside of the ewer, which has no separate foot or base, shows dot-shaped spur marks.
