    The Barlow Collection

The vessel is of broad pear shape, the widest part somewhat angled, and tapers to a waisted neck with flared rim. It is supported on three low bulging feet which originally ended in points which are now broken off. A light greyish-blue glaze covers the piece, fading to a transparent layer at the rim and pooling to a thick intense mottled blue inside. One half of the outside is streaked with grey, probably from misfired copper, and has two faint purplish splashes. The legs were largely left unglazed, revealing a yellowish-brown biscuit, but the glaze has pooled to thick drops on the base and around the legs, so that the piece had to be broken off its firing support, leaving a rough triangular patch on the underside.
