    The Barlow Collection

The vase is the lower part of a cut-down pear-shaped vase, originally with a tall flaring neck, and therefore rests on an unusually heavy, somewhat splayed foot. Two pairs of parallel lines are incised around the middle and another line near the present rim. The blue-tinged glaze leaves the inside of the vessel and the underside of the footring exposed in the off-white biscuit, since originally, the inside would not have been seen. The domed cover is more thinly potted, with an everted rim and a tiny arched knob and bears a quickly sketched lotus scroll incised with a two-pronged instrument and with combed detail. The glaze is paler in tone and the biscuit finer, visible underneath the rim. The cover is earlier in date than the vase.
