    The Newberry Collection of Islamic Embroideries

    Part of a naskhi inscription set over an arabesque border. The fragmentary inscription reads 'al-kar(amat)' (nobility).

    As the inscription would have been quite large, the fragment probably was part of a banner or similarly large textile. Threads are couched down over surface satin filling stitches.
