Chinese Prints 1950-2006 in the Ashmolean Museum

The print 'Impact' uses forceful print language to embody the contradictory conflict between industry and nature during the industrialization process.

Chen Yanlong started making prints under the influence of the Great Northern Wilderness School. After studying printmaking at the Central Academy of Fine Arts in 1991 and 1992, he gradually found his own subject matter and means of expression. Daqing is a well known oil city because of Mao Zedong’s slogan ‘Learn from Daqing in industry’ in the 1960s. Chen has witnessed the intensifying conflict between industry and nature and expresses his concern in his prints. He now works as a full-time printmaker at the Daqing Printmaking Institute.
