Fang Zhaolin, also called Fang Zhaoling, was born at Wuxi in Jiangsu province. Her painting teachers included Qian Songyan (q.v.), Zhao Shao'ang (see Reyes Catalogue) and Zhang Daqian (q.v.). From 1937 onwards she travelled and lived in many different places, including Oxford (1956-58), and exhibited her paintings widely in the United States, Europe and East Asia. Since 1980 she has exhibited chiefly in China and Hong Kong.
