The Newberry Collection of Islamic Embroideries

A band of linked star or flower shapes made up from triangles, with a border of small rectangles. Small dots of pink (brown) are at the centre of each star or flower.

The metallic thread is tarnished black, but probably is silver thread. [The silver band is wrapped around a silk core.] It covers the entire band and obscures the ground fabric. On the reverse are dark pink and yellow silk threads; these were used to embroider the centres of the stars or floral shapes. Also on the reverse there is an accession number (1968.574), probably from the Department of Antiquities. [It is possibly of European origin & not part of the original Newberry collection.]
