    The Barlow Collection

A deeper bowl with a very similar design excavated from the Yaozhou kiln site is published in Songdai Yaozhou yaozhi/The Yaozhou Kiln Site of the Song Period, Beijing, 1998, pl.XXV, fig.3.

The rounded dish has a low conical foot with recessed convex base and a ridge at the rim outside. The centre is decorated with a small flower spray roundel with a trefoil bloom and a leaf, and the sides with a foliate scroll band, all incised, with combed detail. The outside is undecorated except for some thinly incised spiralling lines. The olive-green glaze fully covers the piece, adhering in an uneven layer on the base and footring, leaving the underside of the foot exposed in the brown biscuit with adhering grit. The outside has an accidental brown iron spot.
