    The A. H. Church Collection of Japanese Sword-Guards (Tsuba)

    Mokkō; hammered-up edge; inlaid below with part of a large peony flower in silver, the centre (pistil and stamens) encrusted in gold, the details engraved in katakiri, as are also several leaves projecting beyond it; above is a large butterfly in iroye incrustation with rubbed gilding; at the back, similarly treated, are the rest of the flower, more leaves, and a smaller butterfly. Signed: Iwamoto Nagashide [Japanese text] saku and dated Kiōwa II (1802), mid-spring (second month). (This is really Tsuchiya Yasuchika IV, of Group XL, a pupil of Iwamoto Konkwan who was adopted by a branch of the Tsuchiya.)
