  • sentoku

    A kind of brass made from an alloy of copper, zinc, and tin.

  • shakudō

    alloy of copper and gold, patinated to a dark blue-black colour

  • tsuba

    Japanese sword guard.

    Sentoku of olive tint. Rounded lozenge shape; fine hatched ishime ground (covering the sepadai); pierced in negative silhouette with an orchid flower above and a leaf below, both silver-lined; each face inlaid with scattered hexagons in shakudō with stellate centres in gold, silver or copper; riōhitsu lined with shakudō.
