Chinese Paintings in the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford

Qian Hui'an was from an area of Jiangsu province that is now part of Shanghai, and though he spent some time in neighbouring Zhejiang, he settled in Shanghai proper. There he associated with Ni Tian (q.v.) and others, dealing in as well as producing his own paintings. He was active in at least two painting societies including the Yu Yuan Painting Society, of which he was elected founding president in 1909. He edited the painting catalogue Qingxi huapu.
