Originating in Arabic literature and readapted by several Persian poets, the story of Layla and Majnun narrates the unfulfilled love of two youths set apart by their families. Qays’ obsession for Layla grows to such an extent that he flees the world to live in the wilderness, hence the nickname majnun or crazy (for love).
