  • Islamic Seals and Talismans by Ludvik Kalus

Catalogue of Islamic Seals and Talismans

Cornelian; bezel (but the front face is very slightly rounded), bevelled towards the front; oval; a little damaged. Two lines of cursive script (nasta`līq), separated by the elongatin of the return of the loop of yā’ in the word '`Alī'; engraved.

    (1) God, Muḥammad [or God is praised], `Alī, الله محمد است على
    (2) Fāṭima, Ḥasan, Ḥusayn فاطمه حسن حسين

Above the word Ḥusayn, there is a small decorative motif consisting of two short vertical strokes crossed in the centre by a slightly longer horizontal stroke. One line follows the shape of the gem.
