    A kind of brass made from an alloy of copper, zinc, and tin.

  • shakudō

    alloy of copper and gold, patinated to a dark blue-black colour

    Japanese sword guard.

    The A. H. Church Collection of Japanese Sword-Guards (Tsuba)

    Mokkō; thick; "wire" edge; each face realistically modelled in low relief with detached botanical subjects: - on the front, plum-tree, ground-bamboo, clematis and pink; on the back, aster, iris in water, pine-saplings, old pine-tree and lespedeza; flowers and other details in silver incrustation; edge similarly encrusted with a regular scrolling stem set with stellate blossoms.
