  • The Barlow Collection by the University of Sussex

    The Barlow Collection

The piece copies a bowl of Xuande mark and period (1426–1435), but the originals differ in material, proportions and design.

The bowl is thinly potted, of steep conical form, slightly flared at the rim and with a straight foot. The outside is painted in white slip with two dragons and two cloud motifs among overall flames. The base is inscribed with a spurious four-character Xuande reign mark in a double ring in underglaze blue.
