    The Barlow Collection

The vase has a wide globular body, tall neck and a tapering foot with very low footring. Two ring handles held by lozenge-shaped motifs are applied in relief on either side. The neck is incised with overlapping upright leaves, the shoulder with a lobed border with scroll motifs, the body with a dense chrysanthemum scroll with larger and smaller blooms, and the foot with a key-fret border with a band of petals and scroll motifs above it. The stoneware body is covered with an opaque cream-coloured glaze, the rim is bound in copper and may originally have been somewhat taller.
