The A. H. Church Collection of Japanese Sword-Guards (Tsuba)

Mokkō; on each face a spray of the autumn flowers aster, lespedeza, gentian and eupatorium, in low flat relief on a nanako ground; the flowers and some of the leaves are gilt, as are also the border and the edgings of false rh.; these last are not strictly holes, as what appear to be plugs in them (with coarse nanako surface) are really part of the solid guard.
