The Newberry Collection of Islamic Embroideries

Two bands, one with brown, the other with blue embroidery. Both bands have the same patterning, made up of small triangles, s-shapes, and central diamonds. The embroidery provides the background.

The bands are set at right angles between two stitched hems, one of which has a selvedge. They were therefore part of a narrow strip of fabric of uncertain function, possibly to be sewn onto a garment.

The radiocarbon date is 1405 AD +/- 38.
