    The Barlow Collection

    The small vase is of rectangular section, following an archaic bronze form (fang hu). With pear-shaped body and tapering foot, the piece has a double raised rib at the shoulder, two squared tubular lugs at the sides and corresponding elongated holes in the foot beneath, for inserting a ribbon or cord. The stoneware, which is probably cream-coloured, but now stained, bears an opaque cream-coloured glaze with an overall crackle, all stained yellowish, and with darker browish patches.
