Textile fragment with spirals in braided tear-drops

Rows of spirals framed by braided tear-drop shapes, with a trefoil at the top and two small fish on either side, as in Cat. no. 435 [EA1990.442]. The pattern is grey against a light ground.
Selvedge and stitching. In conservation the fragment was discovered to have two pieces which are not connected, but it is very likely that they were once joined; the measurements are: a) warp 15 cm., weft 28 cm.; b) warp 15.5 cm., weft 13.5 cm. The textile is badly soiled. The reverse shows less dye saturation than the surface. -
