    Chinese Paintings in the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford

    He Tianjian was born in Wuxi, Jiangsu province. He edited art magazines, including Huaxue yuekan and Guohua yuekan, and taught at art schools in both Wuxi and Shanghai. In the 1930s and 1940s he lived entirely by selling his paintings, and from 1949 onwards he was associated with Shanghai Art Academy, of which he was vice-president. His works are predominantly landscapes in traditional style.
