    Chinese Paintings in the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford

    Zhao Wangyun was from Sulu in Hebei province. In 1925 he entered Jinghua Art College in Peking and in 1928 began teaching at Peking Normal University. He went on to work in Shanghai and Tianjin, and in 1936 embarked on a decade of travelling around China before settling in 1946 in Xi'an, Shaanxi province, where he spent the rest of his career. Throughout his life he was active in publishing as well as painting.
