    Ye Yaming, better known as Ya Ming, from Hefei in Anhui province, joined the army at fifteen and two years later was sent to study at Huainan School of Art. After 1949 he moved to Nanjing, Jiangsu province, where he was influenced by Fu Baoshi (q.v.) and Qian Songyan (q.v.). His early career was as a graphic artist producing prints, posters and cartoons; he began traditional painting in 1953 and in 1957, on a visit to the U.S.S.R., became acquainted with Western painting. He has been prominent in the Jiangsu Painting Academy and the Jiangsu Artists' Association.

    Ya Ming, also known as Ye Yaming, was born in Hefei, Anhui province. He joined the army at the age of 15 and two years later was sent to study at Huainan School of Art. After 1949 he moved to Nanjing, Jiangsu province, where he was influenced by Fu Baoshi and Qian Songyan. His early career was as a graphic artist producing prints, posters and cartoons. He began traditional painting in 1953 and in 1957, on a visit to the U.S.S.R., became acquainted with Western painting. He has been prominent in the Jiangsu Chinese Painting Academy and the Jiangsu Artists’ Association.
