A catalogue of Chinese paintings from the Reyes Collection by Shelagh Vainker (published Oxford, 1996).
Zhao Shao’ang was one of the most prominent pupils of the Lingnan School and therefore his work is representative of the style. This couplet is executed in his distinctive angular style. The inscription reads ‘The beauty has been forgotten in years, soldiers sacrificed in dust.’
