    Modern Chinese Paintings: The Reyes Collection in the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford

    The developed foreground of windswept bamboo, the relatively large proportions of the principal figure and the weather itself combine to lend this work an immediacy which is at variance with the static qualities of more traditional landscape painting. The inscription is in the style of characters cast on ancient bronze vessels and the place mentioned in it, Jin'gangpo, is in the vicinity of Chongqing where Fu lived between 1937 and 1945.
