Calligraphy written in lishu clerical script

  • Literature notes

The calligraphy is in lishu (clerical script) form and is a transcription of part of the famous Wu Rong stele at Ji'nan in Shandong province, carved in the Han (206 BC-221 AD) dynasty. The bird is painted in traditional decorative style, and was probably mounted together with the calligraphy not long after it was completed.
  • Description

Lishu is a Han dynasty (206 BC-AD 220) script. The present calligraphy was copied from the famous Wu Rong stele at Ji’nan in Shandong province, carved in the Eastern Han (15 BC-AD 220) dynasty. The bird and flower painting by Tang Yun (1910-1993) is in traditional decorative style, and was probably mounted together with the calligraphy not long after it was completed.
