Greenware funerary vase with peonies

Literature notes
The tall ovoid vase rests on a slightly splayed solid foot with concave base. The tall neck flares to a wide angular dish-shaped mouth with everted lip, and is flanked by two lugs formed of moulded flower motifs attached to the shoulder and joined to the neck by horizontal studs. The shoulders are incised with four simple pendant foliate motifs, the flower-shaped lugs are exquisitely moulded in relief as peony flowers, the petals with delicate veins and the surrounding space finely stippled. The near-white stoneware body is covered with a pale translucent green-tinged glaze which adheres in a thicker green layer around the shoulder. The base is largely glazed but the foot shows six large unglazed patches from firing supports. The lip shows eight unglazed patches where a cover had been placed during firing, which is now missing.
