Greenware bowl with musk mallow decoration

  • loan
  • Literature notes

This piece has an extremely fine and tactile glaze, although it is misfired to a yellowish olive tone due to oxidization, instead of the bluish green derived from firing in a reducing kiln atmosphere.

The bowl has slightly rounded conical sides and a tapering foot with very low footring. The inside is decorated by moulding with a flower-head on the flat centre and flowering musk mallow around the sides, the outside is plain. The whole bowl is covered with an extremely smooth olive-green glaze, and shows three white patches from firing supports on the base.
