A related bowl excavated in Wuyuan county, Jiangxi province, can be dated to 1211.
The deeply rounded bowl stands on a thin, nearly straight foot. It is undecorated and glazed in a blue-tinged transparent glaze. The glaze leaves the rim free, but covers the foot, as the piece was fired upside down. It may once have had a cover. -

Vitreous coating applied to the surface of a ceramic to make it impermeable or for decorative effect.

Ceramic material composed of kaolin, quartz, and feldspar which is fired to a temperature of c.1350-1400⁰c. The resulting ceramic is vitreous, translucent, and white in colour.
