Cup with blue glaze

  • loan
  • Literature notes

This cup copies Song dynasty Jun ware, but does not conform to this ware in terms of its thick potting, shape of foot, glaze colour and texture.

The small cup is thickly potted, especially near the foot, of rounded globular form with incurved rim, and has a splayed foot with deeply hollowed-out base. The glaze has a dull, matt greyish-blue appearance, with an overall crackle, fading to grey at the rim, and ending above the foot, leaving foot and base free. Part of foot and sides is covered with only a thin layer of greenish-brown glaze. The biscuit has fired a strong brown tone on the outside of the foot, and a greyish-buff colour underneath.
