Literature notes
The rounded bowl has wide everted sides which flare slightly towards the rim, and rests on a straight narrow foot. The wide centre inside is clearly marked, the sides are divided by five faint radiating lines of slip, and the rim outside is outlined by an incised line. Otherwise the piece is undecorated, the yellowish-green glaze is crackled in places, but smooth in texture, and adheres in a thin, yellowish-burnt layer, which has partly flaked off on the base and foot, leaving the footring exposed in the light brown biscuit. -

A semi-fluid clay applied to a ceramic before glazing either to coat the surface or for decorative effect.

Ceramic material made of clay which is fired to a temperature of c.1200-1300⁰c and is often buff or grey in colour.
