Literature notes
The widely flaring bowl is of deeply indented ten-lobed form, with a groove below the flared rim and a straight, circular foot with chamfered edge. The inside shows a deep groove around the centre. The piece is covered with an opaque white glaze which leaves the base and patches around the foot free and has an accidental brown iron spot on the inside. -

earthenware
Ceramic material made of clay which is fired to a temperature of c.1000-1200⁰c. The resulting ceramic is non-vitreous and varies in colour from dark red to yellow.

Vitreous coating applied to the surface of a ceramic to make it impermeable or for decorative effect.
