White ware bowl with lotus decoration

Literature notes
Of slightly rounded conical form, with six faint indents on the outside and a lobed rim with corresponding cut-outs, the bowl rests on a low, straight, somewhat uneven foot. The inside is incised with a large lotus spray with two blooms, a naturalistically drawn lotus leaf and a sprig of a arrow-head, all distinctly engraved in single and double outlines, textured by extremely fine combing and surrounded by broader carved strokes, which make the design stand out in shallow relief. The inside is surrounded by an incised line below the rim, the outside is plain. The off-white body bears an ivory-coloured glaze, which covers the rim but leaves the footring free. The glazed base shows some marks from the combing tool. -
