Greenware six-lobed dish

    A related fragmentary dish from the Yaozhou kiln site is published in Songdai Yaozhou yaozhi/The Yaozhou Kiln Site of the Song Period, Beijing, 1998, pl.LXI, fig.6.

    The small dishes are of rounded form, the sides six times indented on the outside, the lip turned over and with six associated cut-outs, the centre clearly marked. The pieces are covered with an even olive-green glaze. They are made without a separate base or foot, but have an unglazed patch on the underside, with a carved circular groove.

glaze, stoneware

  • glaze

    Vitreous coating applied to the surface of a ceramic to make it impermeable or for decorative effect.

  • stoneware

    Ceramic material made of clay which is fired to a temperature of c.1200-1300⁰c and is often buff or grey in colour.
