Themes of prosperity and celebration were widely used in the early 1970s, either in urban settings as here in this image of central Beijing, or in scenes of bumper harvests in the countryside. The central figure represents workers, peasants and soldiers, while those in the background depict national minority peoples. They typically show red tones and smiling faces, as here.
