Explore works by one of the great masters of the Japanese landscape print, Utagawa Hiroshige.
This print depicts a wintry rural scene on the outskirts of Hamamatsu station. The village and Hamamatsu Castle are visible in the distance. Porters warm themselves by a bonfire while another traveller looks on, pipe in hand, and a peasant woman walks past carrying a child on her back. Bokashi colour gradation is skilfully used to depict the smoke from the bonfire.
